Starting a Design Business
Welcome to day two of posting everyday for a month! Today I want to chat about how I started my business. Like I spoke about yesterday, I started at the beginning of the pandemic and when I was diagnosed with Crohn’s. I wanted to have a job that was flexible, remote at least part time, and that paid well. Fortunately, the pandemic made jobs like those much more normal and starting a design business didn’t seem so daunting. As always, I’d love if you could watch the video and support my channel, but if you’re short on time or reading is easier for you, there are highlights below.
feeling super unmotivated and anxious about my future in 2018/2019
getting diagnosed with Crohn’s out of the blue was a wakeup call
joining IIN gave me purpose and I was so excited for it. I made the investment and was genuinely interested in what they were teaching. I didn’t have that experience in college.
Losing someone close to me and hitting rock bottom.
The most helpful thing I’ve heard from Lacy Phillips and To Be Magnetic was that rock bottoms can only mean it’s going to get better and the things meant for you in life are trying to connect with you quickly.
I applied to countless entry level jobs and heard nothing
Seeing Crohn’s as a blessing (I know not everyone can relate to this, but truly reframing my experience has allowed me to move on, let go of resentment and what ifs)
Taking time while I healed to read a lot and start to learn how to start a business
Working on mindset so I believed in myself at my core and eliminated limiting beliefs such as “I have to work really hard to earn money” and “I need a 9-5 to make six figures.”
Watching Kate talk at IIN and she was prompted to think about what she loved doing most as a child. It really made me think and I connected with Kate so much I sent her a simple email that changed my life.
