How to Do a Life Audit
How to Do a Life Audit
Intro
First Part
As we’re nearing the end of January and the first few weeks of implementing any New Year’s resolutions, I wanted to talk through how to do a simple and easy life audit. Today’s assignment is just to follow along with the tips and get a journal while you listen to take stock of where you’re at and some actionable tips for improving areas you find you might’ve scored lower on.
This exercise was extremely helpful when I was first diagnosed with Crohn’s and overwhelmed figuring out what to take action on. As I healed and started resuming everyday life, I knew there was a lot I wanted to change about the way I was living, working, managing my finances, and treating my body. This exercise was a great was to zoom out to zoom back into certain areas without losing focus on the bigger picture and the new person I was becoming.

Second Part
Take your notebook and pen and write down these things: career, home, environment, education, nutrition, joy, physical activity, health, relationships, social life, finances, creativity, and spirituality. Pause here if you need.
Now go and rate each one on a scale of 1-5. 5 being “it’s going amazing!” and 1 being, really suffering in this area.
Now add up your score, this is your overall wellbeing number. You can come back to this time and time again, I recommend once a month.
If you’re close to 65, that is amazing! If you’re like me now, and more around a 39-50, you can work on making a few tweaks to improve those areas you scored yourself lower in. And if you’re below a 39, don’t worry, it’s all about going slow and taking action.
If you feel overwhelmed, go back and listen to the episode on How to Create a New Years Resolution that Works. In that episode I share how to start taking action to achieving your goals and how to break them down into bite size chunks. If you only have one general goal, like “Improve relationship to money.” You’re going to look at your goals everyday and wonder, well I don’t know what that means and I’m super busy so I’ll just figure it out later.” You’re going to improve your relationship to money by creating a ROTH IRA, taking a specific course on money management, reading Ramit Sethi’s and The Budgetnista’s books, setting up automatic deposits and payments, and creating high yield savings accounts for each of your big 3-5 year goals like buying a house or a car or going on a vacation.
Your assignment is to take action to improving all areas of life, find friends, family and people on social media who have what you want and use that to fuel you to take action.
