Having a minimal and sustainable skincare routine can sound so daunting, but as I’ve pared down my products, I’ve found that I really enjoy my morning and evening rituals so much more. I’ve organized all my products, know exactly what I have and have been able to save money. This means I can invest in more expensive skincare that’s ethical and that I’ve always dreamed of using. Here are some tips that have helped me maintain my organized and efficient linen closet:
Buy travel size.
I really like trying new things, but because of this I never finish makeup before the expiration date. While I think it’s good to buy food in bulk to save money, buying makeup in travel sizes saves my wallet, and space, unless I use the product daily and know I will use it all quickly.
Get a carry all container.
I have two containers: one for makeup and one for skincare. I will not buy anything extra unless there’s a spot in those containers. This has really helped me keep track of what I have, save money, and produce less waste.
Plan a date to go through your skincare every 6 months to a year.
I mark down dates in my calendar for clean outs! Always knowing exactly what I have and what I’ll need to buy makes me feel like I have my life together 😉
Research brands!
Shop sustainably and buy brands that you believe in. Buying anything is voting for our future and sets standards for the future of skincare and beauty!
Donate instead of return.
If you end up trying makeup or skincare that doesn’t work for you, think about donating over returning, especially if you have to ship a single product back. Shipping isn’t sustainable for the environment and increases your carbon footprint! Of course, if the product is bad, please don’t donate it and ask for a refund.
